What I Read Last

This book is by the author who wrote the best selling book, A Dog’s Purpose.  It was not as good, but definitely still worth the read.  I liked how the author explored the stereotypes of certain breeds of dogs, especially pit bulls.  There was also some great examples of how dogs can help veterans experiencing post traumatic stress disorder.

I really struggled with this book.  It started out slow and just never grabbed my attention. With that said, I think you should still give this book a try.  There were some great moments and the Letter Library ( books that people would leave anonymous notes for others) was sweet.  This book has gotten lots of great reviews so I don’t want to discourage anyone.  It just wasn’t for me.  I may give it a try another time.

I am a huge Laura Ingalls Wilder fan so I requested this on NetGalley. I hope it is good.

PUPDATE

It pretty much rained all last week which the foster pups do not like.  I had to sleep downstairs one night with them during a storm. My husband had to do the same another night.  Thankfully, there isn’t a lot of rain in the forecast this week.  But they sure are cute when they are sleeping aren’t they?

Words in Deep Blue LOOKS interesting (maybe I just like cover) but I know if it’s for me either. And the Laura Ingalls Wilder book would be super interesting I would think. There was another blogger that was a big Wilder fan, I think it was Book Snob? She had a post once about visiting some of the Wilder sites…

The pups definitely look cute. 🙂

How badly would A Dog’s Purpose rip me apart? Maybe I should read this one instead. Did you see the movie Hachi with Richard Gere? I sobbed for hours and the next week, every time I thought about it I started crying again. Ugh.

A book about a bookstore sounds good, and of course you can’t lose with Harry Potter. The World Of Laura Ingalls Wilder looks interesting. Have you read A Wilder Rose? I guess Ma Ingalls was actually kind of grumpy. Ha ha.Thanks for TMTing. I’m sorry it took so long to get here and comment. 🙂

I cried a lot with A dog’s purpose but more with the sequel. I haven’t seen Hachi. Who wrote A Wilder Rose? I haven’t read it. I think I would have been a grumpy Pioneer woman too. It is kind of romanticized but it had to suck! I will try to TMT this week but I am exhausted after graduation his week!

I can’t remember the author, but she read all of the correspondence between Rose and her mother (Laura) that was given to some library or museum, and all the literary magazine interviews Laura did over the years and wrote a story about the relationship between Rose and her mother. It was really interesting.

That’s totally fine about TMTing. I would be exhausted, too. 🙂

Yes, I did mean Caroline. I guess after editing her mother’s first two attempts at writing about life on the prairie for a magazine (Rose was already a magazine writer), Rose thought it would be easier for her mother to just tell her the stories and she would write the artickes. When the stories were bought to publish as a book, Rose continued to write them, so Rose actually wrote the books based on her mother’s oral stories and they kept it a secret. Anyway, I guess Caroline was pretty gruff in Laura’s stories, but Rose didn’t think it would go over to well, so they sweetened her up. Ha ha. And you are right, Laura was none to pleasant in her later years either. I guess Rose got her temperament from her father. A Wilder Rose was also based on Rose’s childhood diaries. I liked it, you should read it. 🙂
