WHAT I WATCHED

I watched this very short (30min) documentary.  Very interesting and informative about how girls in India have to quit going to school when they get their periods because they can’t afford hygiene products.  Students in California raised money to provide a machine to make feminine pads.  The women of the village learn to make them and sell them.  A very empowering video on women and girls in a country where they are treated as second class citizens.

WHAT I READ THIS WEEK

GOODREADS

A beautifully written story based on the author’s dad’s experiences growing up.  Almost every day Stella goes to a segregated school and she witnesses some of the townspeople threaten and hurt the other black people. I was heartbroken during the scene when Stella’s dad registers to vote.  People were so disrespectful and just plain evil.   Through out all of these trials, Stella continues to try and write about all of these experiences even though it is difficult for her to get the words on paper.  This book is a great example of resilience, friendship, family, love, and hope.

The Book Blogger Hop is put on by The Coffee Addicted Writer . There is a weekly prompt featuring a book related question.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION IS SUBMITTED BY Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews

THIS WEEKS PROMPT IS…

Have you made the switch from print to e-books? Is either one exclusive?

My Answer:

I read both types of books about equally.  I like print books for sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee and I read ebooks on my phone when I am riding in the car, on my lunch break, or waiting for an appointment.

I haven’t read You but the netflix adaptation was really addictive!
I’m more of an ebook reader now… I hate how uncomfortable reading a paperback is anywhere but tucked up on the sofa. That said, snuggling up with a paperback is lovely.

Happy weekend! We were watching a show on India tonight on Netflix, it was quite interesting. amazing how many needs are out there.

I read print and ebooks about equally too, I guess. Actually I probably read ebooks more, since lately I only buy physical copies of a book if I really liked it, or occasionally impulse buy in store. 🙂

I am so happy you liked Stella! 🙌🙌🙌

I am glad you and Barb loved A Dog Called Jack. I hope Hoopla gets it before August so I can read it, or it goes on ebook sale. 👍✨

I have to check to see if Hoopla has On the Come Up yet. 📚

I prefer my ebooks because when I get tired, or I want to have a meal, or do things like fold laundry I can always switch to text-to-speech.

    Have a wonderful new week..💜✨

    Hi Jolene!

I’m the same as you, I use my Kindle at different times, but still love physical books!

Oh, now you have me wondering what ‘On The Come Up!’ is going to be like 🙂 ‘You’ Also looks great.

Hope you’re having a great weekend! Here’s my Saturday Post – Stacking the Shelves and my Sunday post for my Sunday Wrap up! 😉 Maybe I should have a weekend post where they both go together? lol

I’m so glad we both loved A Dog Called Jack. Is the sequel out? I’ve not had luck finding it as Book Depository only says out of stock. I’m glad you found The Hiding Place creepy. I need to see if I’ve moved up on the waiting list any. Luckily we didn’t get as much snow as they predicted. Hope you didn’t either. And what an awful reason to not attend school!

You are reading some very interesting books. I’m more a fan of ebooks and digital audiobooks since I can take them all with me when traveling on the Harley. I want all my books, all the time! Plus I think I will be moving this summer and it’s less to pack and organize.

I hope you are finding some great books this week!
