I didn’t get very much reading done this week due to going to my daughter’s track meets two nights this week and binge watching The Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix.  I had been hearing a lot of great things about this show on Twitter and some of the blogs I follow.  This show is hilarious, a bit gruesome, but so funny! The dialogue between the two main characters, Sheila and Joel, is clever and brilliant. If you want a fun show about a wife who wakes up dead one day and how the family has to deal with her new diet of humans, then I highly recommend this show!

Book Blurb

Ten-year-old Zac Hutchinson collects facts: octopuses have three hearts, Usain Bolt is the fastest man on earth. But no one will tell him the one thing he wants to know most: who his father is and where he went.
When Zac’s mother, Juliet, inadvertently admits that his dad is the only man she’s ever loved, Zac decides he is going to find him and deliver his mom the happily ever after she deserves.
But Liam Jones left for a reason, and as Zac searches for clues of his father, Juliet begins to rebuild what shattered on the day that was at once the happiest and most heartbreaking of her life.
Told through the eyes of Zac, Juliet, and grandfather Mick, Little Big Love is a layered, heartfelt, utterly satisfying story about family, love, and the secrets that can define who we are.

This was such a unique book full of Asian culture, tradition, and magic.  After Leigh’s mom commits suicide, she believes her mom has a come back as a large red bird to give her a message.  This leads Leigh to go to Taiwan to meet her maternal grandparents for the first time and try to learn what her mom is trying to tell her.  Leigh visits her mom’s favorite places in Taiwan searching for clues while still seeing the red bird flying above the city watching over her.  This was beautifully written and so heartbreaking at times, especially as some family secrets become uncovered.

Grabbed this from my local Library.  I really enjoyed her book Still Alice.

Book Blurb

An accomplished concert pianist, Richard received standing ovations from audiences all over the world in awe of his rare combination of emotional resonance and flawless technique. Every finger of his hands was a finely calibrated instrument, dancing across the keys and striking each note with exacting precision. That was eight months ago. Richard now has ALS, and his entire right arm is paralyzed. His fingers are impotent, still, devoid of possibility. The loss of his hand feels like a death, a loss of true love, a divorce—his divorce.

I’m glad you enjoyed Santa Clarita Diet. I love the relationship between the husband and wife as well and their daughter is just so snarky and fun. Looks like you’ve been getting a lot of reading done. I love the small town and the Pawprints and Predicaments book but can’t remember the name of it;. However, the town that comes to mind immediately is Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls. I love it!
