The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @The Caffeinated Book Reviewer It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. Here is what I have been up to this last week.
I received a notification that I posted my 200th blog post this week!
I have still been faithfully watching the Olympics. I am sad it will be over Sunday night. Only two more years until the Summer Games in Japan right?
My son and I went to see Blank Panther this week and it was freaking amazing!!! I loved everything about it. I highly suggest you drop everything and go see it.
CURRENTLY READING
I did not realize that a big part of this book takes place in Iceland. I spent 24 hours in Iceland last March so it was interesting to read the author’s descriptions of that beautiful island country. I could picture it perfectly from the descriptions.
” The rugged peaks of the rocks presented faint outlines on the horizon; at times a few patches of snow, concentrating the vague light, glittered upon the slopes of the distant mountains certain peaks, boldly uprising, passed through the gray clouds, and reappeared above the moving mists…”
Doesn’t that description match my photo that I took almost perfectly?
I bought this book in Kindle in Motion format for $1.99. I love the moving illustrations and the illustrations in this book are beautiful. I believe the current price is now $3.99

My Thoughts
I loved this book! If you are a fan of doctor shows like ER or Grey’s Anatomy then I think you will love this book too. The author is a ER surgeon in real life so I knew what I was reading was authentic. This book was fast paced and immersive. Many times I felt like I was standing next to the doctor in the operating room. There were many emotions reading this book due to the fact that not every patient, just like in real life, survives traumatic injuries. The two main characters, Emma and Zadie, are best friends that went to medical school together. The story goes back and forth between present day and their time as medical students. An event from the past comes to light in present day that will test their friendship. This event is part of the mystery of the book that is revealed at the end so this mystery kept me turning pages.
My Thoughts
This was such an interesting book about how far society has come to accepting service dogs in our country and how these dogs are trained to be service dogs to the blind. However, a majority of the books was about the author, Stephen, and his journey to getting a guide dog finally at the age of 38 and the freedom that ensued. Growing up, Stephen’s parents told him to pretend that he could see because if adults knew he was blind he would be shamed and treated badly. So for his entire life until is late 30s, Stephen, and english professor, never let on that he was blind. After being layed off, Stephen decided he wanted to travel but knew he couldn’t do it himself. He applied to get a guide dog. When accepted, Stephen met his dog, Corky, and they spent 3 weeks training together. I loved reading about their instant bond and how smart and hardworking guide dogs are. “I stroked Corky’s silky ears and then, softly, I began to cry. I’d spent my adult life fearful. But with my dog, the mill wheel of progress was turning inside me. I was poised to walk New York City, to learn it-to learn I could do it. A woman across the aisle asked if I was ok. I told her I was fine, that I was about to be free.”
This book is currently READ NOW on NetGalley at time of posting.
This book publishes March 13th.
Stacking the Shelves is put on by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves. Here are the books I have added to my TBR list this week.
I requested this from Netgalley after a heads up from La La in the Library. We plan to do a buddy read for our Dog Days of Summer Reading Challenge in July.
Book Blurb
He’s a rescue, a mutt. Maybe there’s a little golden retriever in him, although he’s not exactly pretty. He’s had a run-in with coyotes and he’s missing an eye. But Mike is eleven-year-old Caera Donovan’s dog, and they love each other absolutely. Usually her pet follows Caera everywhere, but on the day the family first smells smoke in the air, Mike becomes anxious. Pine Grove is in the path of a wildfire, and the family is ordered to evacuate. In the ensuing chaos, Mike runs off. And then the unthinkable happens; there is no time to search for Mike. They are forced to leave him behind.
What books did you add to your TBR this week?
The Book Blogger Hop is put on by The Coffee Addicted Writer . There is a weekly prompt featuring a book related question.
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION IS SUBMITTED BY MARIA @ A NIGHT’S DREAM OF BOOKS
This weeks prompt is…
Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off? Why or why not?
My answer…
I almost always read hardcover books with the dust jackets off because I don’t want them to get ripped or wrinkled. Sometimes when I take off the dust jacket, the hardcover will have a beautiful design on it which is a nice surprise.
I really want to see Black Panther. And I’m so glad to see Jules Verne getting some love. Absolutely loved his ‘The Mysterious Island’ (that was can only be enjoyed to the maximum if you have read ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ however.

I am thinking about reading 20,000 Leagues next. Verne was so ahead of his time in writing science fiction and fantasy.

He really was. In 20,000 leagues he wrote about an electric-powered submarine. 25 years before they were invented. The man was a genius.
So jealous that you’ve not read that and The Mysterious Island. Would love to read them for the first time again. That and Around the World in 80 Days.

The only problem with the Olympics is that sadness that covers me when it ends. For two weeks I check the medals count and all the stories, and try to cram in as many events as possible, and then it’s all over for two years.

I agree! I love all the stories too. I just watched the U.S. Men’s curling team win gold for the first time ever. It was awesome to watch even though but have no idea how they play that game lol.

Wow… the book about the seeing eye dog and the man – I have to read it. It sounds amazing… and so very touching. Can’t believe that a dog could change someone’s life so much. It’s really too bad they live much less than a person. It must be so hard parting with someone that has basically enabled your life.

If Have Dog, Will Travel is still a Read Now after the pub date, I’ll grab it for Dog Days. I don’t feel bad if I don’t read a book right away if it is still a Read Now after it publishes. It sounds wonderful. 🐕
I love that you shared your photograph of Iceland with the book quote. It was a perfect match. I need to keep a better eye on those Kindle-In-Motion deals. 🗻
I read with the dust jackets on. No reason, really, but I do use the flap as a bookmark now and again. 📚
Have a wonderful new week. 💜

I love the Kindle in Motion Books. It feels like something out of Harry Potter lol. When I loan friends hardbacks I don’t give them the dust jacket cause I don’t want them ruined. Have a great week.

I have heard that Black Panther is amazing so I am glad you enjoyed it! I remember years ago when they split the summer and winter olympics into different years. I love it because now we only have to wait 2 years for an olympic year!
Have a great week!

Yes I remember when they split them too. It seems like it should have always been that way but makes much more sense! Hope you have a great week too.

I usually leave the dust jacket on when I’m reading a hardback book. They don’t bother me.
