MY REVIEW

This was such an uplifting and fun read. I was expecting a book about an abandoned dog that races across China with the author who is an ultra marathon runner. Even though this does happen, there is so much more to the story. As you can guess from the title, Gobi gets lost, in a crowded, dangerous part of China. The author, Dion, goes to amazing lengths to find Gobi. I love that the author bonds with this stray after only a few days and spends countless time and money to get her back. Not only does Dion fall in love with Gobi, so do the other runners in the race. Gobi soon becomes famous in China. The story goes back and forth from the past to the present. The author talks about how he got into running, his previous races, and the death of his father. All these examples of challenges and perseverance help Dion on his quest to find Gobi and bring her home.

Goodreads Summary

Everyone has a story . . . but will they get the happy ending they deserve?

Emilia has just returned to her idyllic Cotswold hometown to rescue the family business. Nightingale Books is a dream come true for book-lovers, but the best stories aren’t just within the pages of the books she sells – Emilia’s customers have their own tales to tell.

There’s the lady of the manor who is hiding a secret close to her heart; the single dad looking for books to share with his son but who isn’t quite what he seems; and the desperately shy chef trying to find the courage to talk to her crush . . .

And as for Emilia’s story, can she keep the promise she made to her father and save Nightingale Books?

Goodreads Summary

In Shaker Heights, a placid, progressive suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned – from the layout of the winding roads, to the colors of the houses, to the successful lives its residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.
Enter Mia Warren – an enigmatic artist and single mother – who arrives in this idyllic bubble with her teenaged daughter Pearl, and rents a house from the Richardsons. Soon Mia and Pearl become more than tenants: all four Richardson children are drawn to the mother-daughter pair. But Mia carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upend this carefully ordered community.
When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese-American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divides the town–and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides. Suspicious of Mia and her motives, Elena is determined to uncover the secrets in Mia’s past. But her obsession will come at unexpected and devastating costs.

The Book Blogger Hop is put on by The Coffee Addicted Writer . There is a weekly prompt featuring a book related question.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION IS SUBMITTED BY Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviws!

This weeks prompt is…

Do you ever go “way back” to when you first started blogging and look at your old review posts? Do you see any differences from then to now?

rabbits

MY ANSWER…

I have only been blogging for a little over a year. However, I did recently read my first few posts and they have nice long book reviews ha ha! They also seemed very serious and non personal.

PUPDATE!

Trixie is still doing amazing! She turned 12 in July. I love the first picture of her sleeping.  She always puts her paw over her nose.  So adorable.  My niece stayed with me this weekend and she loved cuddling with her.  My five year old niece begged to take Trixie on walks.  If you notice in the picture she is wearing her princess shoes and tiara haha!

THIS MONTH I WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER READING CHALLENGE!

dogdaysofsummer-e1501425197922.jpg

It is hard to believe that it is almost August! Summer has flown by and we are in the home stretch before school starts up again.  LA LA IN THE LIBRARY and I are going to be reading and recommending some amazing dog books in the month of August.  I have 3 or 4 that I am going to read. Here are my choices.

If you want to participate and need a couple of dog book recommendations, here are a few of my favorites.

The first two books talk about how amazing working dogs are, for example, saving hundreds of lives sniffing out bombs in the Middle East to being a therapy dog for veterans with PTSD.  The third book is the hilarious true story of  a husband and wife who moved from California to Maine with their 25 senior rescue dogs.  The last book is another great book about a girl and her HUGE dog Gizelle living in New York City.  Feel free to check out my DOG BOOKS page for more ideas.

PLEASE JOIN US IN THIS FUN READING CHALLENGE AND TELL US WHAT DOG BOOKS YOU READ.

If you do any canine related blogging let us know and we will link it in our posts!
