What I Read Last
This was a continuation of the book A Street Cat Named Bob. It talks about how the first book became a book and other stories of how Bob helped change the author’s life. “For far too many years those three precious qualities-faith, hope, and love- had been sorely missing in my life. But then a twist of fate delivered me all three. They were each embodied in the the mischievous, playful, canny , occasionally cantankerous but always devoted cat who helped me turn my life around. ” There is a Christmas book too that I am definitely going to read this winter.
What I am Reading Now
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she’s a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she’s a disgrace; to design mavens, she’s a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette’s intensifying allergy to Seattle—and people in general—has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.
To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence—creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter’s role in an absurd world.
What I am Reading Next
One morning, Deming Guo’s mother, an undocumented Chinese immigrant named Polly, goes to her job at the nail salon and never comes home. No one can find any trace of her.
With his mother gone, eleven-year-old Deming is left with no one to care for him. He is eventually adopted by two white college professors who move him from the Bronx to a small town upstate. They rename him Daniel Wilkinson in their efforts to make him over into their version of an “all-American boy.” But far away from all he’s ever known, Daniel struggles to reconcile his new life with his mother’s disappearance and the memories of the family and community he left behind.
I am still fostering these two sweet pups. They have kept me busy! Their names are Tank and Dash. Tank on the left is 12 and Dash is 15.
Again, Netflix has been a time eater. I have been watching 13 Reasons Why which is based on the Jay Asher book of the same name. The book was fabulous and so far so is the show.
Currently reading ‘Captain Nemo’. It’s based on the works of Jules Verne and, more importantly, his most famous character (Captain Nemo). All ofthe novels Verne wrote are described as being based kn the adventures of his best friend Andre Nemo. And it actually features Jules Verne as a character quite heavily. It’s a fun read for fans of Verne’s fiction 🙂

I haven’t read that but my son loved it. Have you seen the movie Inferno? It deals with Dantes inferno.

These all sound interesting! Seems like everyone is watching 13 Reasons Why, but I haven’t checked it out yet. I’ll admit I’m slightly wary because of the content, but it’s also partly because I’m obsessed with Supernatural and that’s all I’ve been watching, haha. I’m currently reading It Happened on Love Street by Lia Riley.
Have a great week! 🙂

The Dogs that you are fostering look so sweet. The first book with the cat on the cover looks like it will be hilarious. I hope you love all of your new books.

I really need to finish 13 reasons why so I can watch it on Netflix. I’m weird like that and really like to make sure I read the book before I watch the big screen adaptation. I have to get on that though because I’ve heard great things!!

I read the book a couple years ago so I don’t really remember much. The show is so good!

My daughter and I binge-watched our way through 13 Reasons. Its such a great book and I agree, they did really well with the show. Very emotional and hard to watch—exactly what it needed to be, I thought.
Cute puppies! Have a great week!
